A budget skip bin is the cheapest way to get rid of clean, heavy or green waste — but only if you keep to a single material type. Here’s exactly what you can (and can’t) put in one, and why it costs less than a general-waste bin.
What is a budget skip bin?
A budget bin is a skip priced for a single, clean material type. Because the load is clean and recyclable, it can be processed cheaply — so a budget bin is significantly cheaper than the same-size general-waste bin. The catch: no mixing. If other rubbish ends up in the bin, it’s re-charged at general-waste rates. See our budget skip bin hire and prices.
What can go in a budget skip bin?
Budget bins take one of the following clean material types:
Concrete & brick
Old driveway, path or shed slab, concrete offcuts and footings, demolished brick walls, retaining walls, pavers and roof tiles.
Dirt & soil
Excavation spoil, garden-bed removal, landscaping cut-and-fill, and turf.
Rocks & stone
Rocks, stones and rubble from landscaping and hardscaping jobs.
Green waste
Branches, hedge trimmings, grass, leaves, palm fronds, shrubs, wood chips and small tree trunks.
What can’t go in a budget bin?
Keep budget bins to one material type only. Don’t mix in general household rubbish, furniture, appliances, timber, plasterboard, plastics or packaging — a mixed load becomes a general-waste bin. Asbestos and fibro must never go in a budget or general bin; they require a dedicated asbestos skip bin.
Why is a budget bin cheaper?
Clean single-material loads are easy to recycle or reuse — clean fill, crushed concrete, mulch — which costs far less to process than mixed waste headed to landfill. That saving is passed straight on to you.
Which size do I need?
Budget bins run from 2m³ up to 10m³. Concrete, brick and soil are heavy, so they hit the weight limit quickly — for 6m³ budget loads we may deliver two 3m³ bins to keep within weight. If you’re unsure, check the budget bin sizes and prices or give us a call and we’ll help you choose.
